Why you might love junk journaling
Switch off for a while
Slow down, use your hands and focus on something enjoyable. It’s two hours without deadlines, expectations or anything you have to get right.
Make something completely your own
Mix words, pictures, colour, stickers and anything else that catches your eye. There are no rules and no “right” results - your journal can look however you want it to.
Connect at your own pace
Create alongside friendly people and chat as much or as little as you like. Come alone or bring a friend. And you’ll never have to share what you make.
You don’t need to be artistic, enjoy writing or even know what a junk journal is. This is simply a chance to experiment with interesting materials at your own pace, with help whenever you want it.
If you don’t think you’re creative
You won’t need to draw or make anything polished. Cutting, sticking, layering and choosing what appeals to you is more than enough.
If you don’t know where to start
We’ll have examples, ideas and optional prompts ready. You can follow them, adapt them or do something completely different.
If you don’t want to write or share
Your pages can be entirely visual, and your journal is private. There’s no pressure to explain your choices or show anyone what you’ve made.
If coming alone feels awkward
You’ll be welcomed and shown where everything is. Chat as much or as little as feels comfortable, or bring a friend if you’d prefer.

Not sure journaling is really “you”?

Who is junk journaling for?
Junk Journaling is a fun, relaxing way to be more creative and mindful. These sessions are designed for young people and young adults aged 16–25 in Cheshire East.
Is it really free?
Yes completely free. Your journal, all creative materials, snacks and refreshments are provided. The sessions are supported by The National Lottery Community Fund.
Do I need experience?
Not at all. You don’t need to have journaled before or think of yourself as artistic. We’ll provide ideas and optional prompts, and help will always be available if you want it.
Do I have to attend every week?
One booking reserves your regular weekly place, so you won’t need to book again. We know you may sometimes need to miss a session - just let us know when you can. If you miss a session without contacting us, we’ll email to check whether you would still like your place. If we don’t hear back, we may offer it to someone on the waiting list.
Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely. Please ask your friend to register too, so we know how many people to expect and can reserve their place.
Is the venue accessible?
The hall has ramp access and nearby parking and is opposite Nantwich Civic Hall. If you would like to check anything relating to your particular access needs, email info@journalingmatters.com.
What happens after I register?
You’ll receive an email confirming your regular place. We’ll also send you a friendly reminder on Friday afternoons before each Saturday session.
